HICAP Volunteer

Interested in becoming a Registered HICAP Volunteer!

As a HICAP volunteer you will help Medicare Beneficiaries make choices about how they receive their prescription drugs and health care services. You will be trained on Medicare benefits and exclusions and receive reference materials for use on the phone or in the field. Here are some of the duties that HICAP volunteers fulfill:

  • Counsel persons needing help with Medicare
  • Provide administrative support in the HICAP office
  • Participate in outreach activities throughout your community
  • Provide educational presentations to the public
  • Distribute HICAP and Medicare brochures at health fairs and other community events
  • Work on special projects

Our Fresno-Madera HICAP office is located at 3845 N. Clark Street, suite 201 in the Wawona Building. Please contact us at (559) 224-9117 if interested in becoming a volunteer.

We are open 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mission Statement
Family Caregivers and Caregiver Advocates

Valley Caregiver Resource Center offers a comprehensive array of services designed to assist elders and their families master the challenges that accompany the aging process. As long-standing advocates and collaborators in preserving the health and quality of life of others, our aim is to promote personal & community well-being. Valley Caregiver Resource Center gratefully accepts donations; donated funds go towards services provided by VCRC, HICAP, OASIS & the OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM. The Fresno Madera Ombudsman Program does not receive donations when Long Term Care Facilities sponsor or donate to Valley Caregiver Resource Center. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. VCRC is a 501 (c) 3 private non-profit organization; all gifts are tax-deductible in accordance with existing IRS regulations.

Valley Caregiver Resource Center is funded in part through a grant from the Fresno-Madera, Kern, Kings/Tulare, and Merced Area Agencies on Aging, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Federal Medicare Agency and the California Department of Aging. The conclusions and opinions expressed may not be those of the Agency on Aging, the California Department of Aging, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or the Federal Medicare Agency and that this website may not be based upon or inclusive of all raw data. The Center also receives funding from the California Department of Health Care Services in the nine county service areas along with private donations.

 

"Extra Help"

is the government sponsored program to help people pay for their Prescription Drug costs under Medicare Part D. If you have Medicare but are not eligible to receive Medi-Cal, and have an annual income of less than $17,235.00 ($23,265 for couples) you may be eligible. Let HICAP, the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program help you complete an application.

You may be able to get “Extra Help” paying for your prescription drug premiums (that you pay every month) and even lower costs for your prescription medications.
